Intrigada pela citação fui explorar um pouco mais e nesta reportagem do Times:

“There’s a reason why 40, 50 and 60 don’t look the way they used to,” writes Ephron, “and it’s not because of feminism or better living through exercise. It’s because of hair dye. In the 1950s only 7% of American women dyed their hair; today there are parts of Manhattan and Los Angeles where there are no grey-haired women at all.”

... hum... estou a pensar... uma parte da revolução feminina do séc. XX foi devido à tinta de cabelo?!

PS: Lembrei-me do que aconteceu comigo há algum tempo atrás no Somerfield da Edgware Rd. Uma senhora toda coberta de preto perguntou-me (terão sido as minhas raízes brancas que a levaram a falar comigo?) onde estavam as tintas de cabelo. E a senhora inglesa que ficou atrás de mim na caixa comentou "and you'd think they wouldn't have to colour their hair". Um sinal de emancipação do sexo fraco ou de subjugação aos gostos do sexo forte?
